Most SpaceX collectors are familiar with the standard employee CRS-7 memento that the company distributed to their employees containing a section of the Falcon's solar array that was recovered following that mission's failure. A card that went along with these lucites briefly describes these mementos and you can read the one that I have pictured. So having decided that they wanted to incorporate sections of the recovered solar array for this planned employee memento, SpX management needed to decide the form this memento would take. Gwynne Shotwell was tasked to make that decision based on a review of particular designs and prototypes or production samples that were shown/provided to her. I'm not certain whether she was given more than two types to choose between but the other sample that she reviewed and rejected is the one showcased here for sale.

It's my understanding that only one of these was ever produced so it should be a one-of-a-kind item. She/the company rejected this form and ran with the one that we're familiar with for cost reasons only apparently - the design they chose was cheaper to manufacture.

The prototype is approximately 5" x 4" x 1.5. It has some very minor scuffs/light scratches. The other lucite is in very fine condition and includes the original box and card.

See the uploaded images for greater detail. Ruler and quarter are just to help provide scale. I have other NASA/SpaceX items currently listed.
