1963 Syd Mead ONE-OF-A-KIND Award US Steel Award Book Concept Car Art Styling

  

1963 Syd Mead Award for US Steel Award for Projections Book Concept Car Art. Given by the Graphic Arts Council of Chicago. This was very early in Syd's career, before he moved to Hollywood and did Bladerunner, Tron, Short Circuit, etc. This is the award that Syd won for his work for United States Steel (USS) and publisher, Bruce Offset, for his book, PROJECTIONS from 1963.

This award came from the estate of John Reinhart, famed car designer (1956 Lincoln Mark II) and head of US Steel's auto department in the late 1950s through 1960s in Pittsburg. Reinhart hired Syd to do a series of US Steel books, including Projects, and some print sets. The award features its original framing from Pittsburgh.
