A natural landscape hidden inside the stone This is a one-of-a-kind BC Ocean Picture Stone display specimen, hand cut and polished to reveal the remarkable colors and patterns hidden within the stone. I selected and oriented the rough specifically to expose the contrasting blue-green and earthy material within it. The specimen has been intentionally left partially natural. The polished surfaces reveal the interior of the stone, while portions of the original rough material remain along the back and upper section. This creates an interesting contrast between the smooth, luminous polished stone and its untouched natural exterior.
The main polished face displays a beautiful pale aqua/blue-green field beneath a broad band of golden ochre, tan and reddish-brown material, with darker natural inclusions running through the composition. And then there is the question that makes picture stone so fascinating: What do you see?
An ocean beneath a rocky shoreline? Storm clouds over turquoise water? A mountain rising above a misty sea? There is no intended picture. Nature made the pattern, and the interpretation belongs to the person looking at it. No paint, dye, or artificial coloring has been added to create the pattern. BC Ocean Picture Stone is an unusual lapidary material prized for its naturally occurring blue-green tones, contrasting earthy matrix and remarkable picture-like patterns. Each piece reveals something different when it is cut and polished, making individual specimens impossible to duplicate. This is not a mass-produced decorative stone. It is a unique piece of natural material that has been individually selected, cut and polished to reveal the image hidden within it. Please examine all photographs carefully. The photographs show the actual specimen you will receive, including the natural rough areas and variations in the stone.
