Vintage, Handmade Famous Quilter Cranberry Island Patchwork Quilt. This gorgeous, unusual, handmade, hand knotted, one-of-a kind patchwork quilt in small, soft, pastel all-cotton fabric squares was made by a Maine island native in the late 1970's. Marjorie Phippin lived on Great Cranberry Island across from Acadia National Park with her Sea Captain husband, and her quilting skills are legendary in the local area. Her quilts were auctioned off once a year at the island fair for the Lobsterman/ Fisherman's Fund for a number of years.
Islanders and summer residents alike coveted her quilts. Phippin died in 2002 at the age of 97.
Her quilts have been featured in galleries, local museums and historical societies. This quilt measures 93 inches x 81 inches; a generous queen sized quilt. Backing is lovely green leaves and tiny red berries: fully reversible.
In lovely, very gently used vintage condition. Could use a pressing or ironing. From a smoke free home. Please do look at my store for more great things!
