She was the daughter of Pharaoh Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose, and she married her half-brother Thutmose II, with whom she had a daughter, Neferure. After the death of Thutmose II, who left behind a young son, Thutmose III, Hatshepsut initially served as regent. Hatshepsut became the fifth pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty around 1479 BCE as a regent for her stepson Thutmose III. She declared herself pharaoh after a short period of regency.
