VTG One-of-a-Kind Sterling Silver Wire Ranger Set Belt Buckle by Steve Taylor

  
The creator of this collectable set is Steve Taylor, highly acclaimed for his extremely unique inlayed wire creations. He is regarded as one of the finest silversmiths working in Santa Fe. Not to be confused with Tom Taylor. This stunning collectors piece is truly a one-of-a-kind, from a silversmith that rarely repeats his work. The unique design resembles a basket weave as the wire appears to be woven. Unlike most Ranger Sets that are smaller 3/4 width; this piece is a full 1 width, adding to larger than average beefy buckle set. The smithing process in creating such pieces requires a twelve foot table with clamps at each end that holds the sterling silver wire, then winched until precisely straight. The wire is cut to lengths and perfectly soldered side-by-side like a fence until it's a block.

The blocks are cut at angles and and rearranged to create flawless geometric and earthly patterns, so precisely that is can be calibrated to a thousandth of an inch. This technique is extremely time consuming and requires tremendous patients and accuracy. His creations are immediately recognizable for there incomparable integrity and unmatched craftsmanship. Taylor in the late 1980s, wore it for many years, there are signs of wear (see photos). Measures: 2 3/4 x 2 1/8 inches.
