Collectible Rare One Of A Kind! Stephen Kay Signed Framed

This piece dates to 1987 and carries Artist Proof A. Designation, indicating it is among the earliest and most limited impressions from the artist's hand - rarer than standard numbered editions.

About the Work: This large-format painting depicts a grand neoclassical architectural interior featuring two towering Ionic columns flanking a bamboo-framed archway, behind which sits a draped ceremonial urn with a flame finial - rendered in rich impasto texture with Kaye's signature spatula technique. The color palette of sage green, dusty mauve, antique cream, and burnished gold gives the piece a timeless, museum-quality presence. The composition is formal and symmetrical, evoking the grandeur of Greco-Roman antiquity through a distinctly 1980s decorative lens. This subject matter - neoclassical architecture and trophy urns - is a notable departure from Kaye's more commonly seen abstract florals and landscapes, making this a rare and atypical piece within his known catalog. It was likely commissioned or produced as part of a high-end decorative series; a companion canvas (potentially a diptych counterpart) also exists. About Stephen Kaye: Stephen Kaye was a prolific large-format painter active through the late 20th century, recognized for his bold impasto technique using a spatula rather than a traditional brush - creating works with exceptional texture, depth, and dimensional presence. His work consistently appeals to interior designers, collectors of 1980s decorative art, and anyone seeking a commanding statement piece with classical subject matter. Condition Notes: Canvas is in good structural condition with strong, vivid color.

The gold gilt frame shows age-appropriate wear including minor surface scuffs and small areas of gilt loss - consistent with a piece of this age and adds to its vintage character. No tears, no restoration, no odor. This piece commands a room. At approximately 4 feet wide, it is a genuine statement painting suited for a formal living room, library, executive office, hotel lobby, or any space that calls for classical gravitas and artistic distinction.
