The art of making such textiles in Iran is called Suzandozi (needlework). Hence Suzani in Central Asia. Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides as part of their dowry, and were presented to the groom on the wedding day.

This brand new handmade and hand embroidered suzani chappan is from a Nurata, Uzbekistan. This is a labor of love from a small Women's craft group.
