Clay bust of Ingrid Bergman by sculptor Sherman Sherry Peticolas (1904 to 1956) signed "Sherry Peticolas 52". Sherman "Sherry" Peticolas is most famous for Federal Arts Project (FAP) sculptures, including the Juan Bautista De Anza statue at 14. Street and Magnolia Ave in Riverside, California. Peticolas had a short career, only living to the age of 52. He made significant contributions to American sculpture, and his pieces are exceedingly rare. He was known to teach sculpturing and execute smaller busts. See The Los Angeles Times Sun, Sep 13, 1953, Page 26. This is an opportunity to not only own a beautifully sculpted piece by an important artist but also of a highly celebrated actor. It is possible this is not Ingrid Bergman, but given the time period of the piece, facial structure, and hairstyle similarities, it is highly probable she is the subject. For examples of hairstyle and look, see the cover of Look Magazine on Jan 29, 1952, or promotional material for her role in Anastasia.

It is a heavy, roughly 14-pound, solid clay sculpture mounted on a wood base with green felt on the bottom. It is signed "Sherry Peticolas 52" on the back. It appears to be in excellent condition.

The piece is highly textured, so difficult to identify what could be a flaw or the artist's intention. Please examine the photos carefully. You can see a faint color of green in the eyes which may have been painted on or added later. I have not attempted to clean in any way. This item is in the category "Art\Art Sculptures".
