This very scarce WW II Japanese Hinomaru flag. It was taken by US 2nd Marine John.
Oswald of Newark, New Jersey on one of these Pacific islands: Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian or Okinawa. Recipient of the flag: Kobayashi Masao.
As for the flag itself: in very good condition, a couple of stains of blood, a moist stain and minor wear. Underwriters: 1 Navy Vice Admiral Kitchitaro Togo/Toguo (picture)in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, 2 Army Lt. General Nobujoro , 3 Army Major Konpei Komatsu , 4 Nobujiro and 5 Higuchi.
All and all a flag hard to get. Eventual questions are of course welcome, but please have patience in waiting for a return answer due to eventual differences in time zones.
