It's clear this beautiful piece has not been disturbed for many years. You can see it is in great shape still somehow, and that it has the original glass in it. It appears to have seen very little use, but you can see some additional corrosion above the glass portion which would contain the Ink.

I have done a lot of research on these crab Inkwells of the late 1800's. Logged a lot of hours scouring the timeline in which they first appeared at the World's Fairs, and more specifically "The Exposition of the three Americas" sometimes worded differently. A lot of history has been lost in the last 100+ years. I have spoken to nearly everyone that has one of these Crabs, and I have yet to decide where I think they Originated. I speculate due to the nature of the artwork, the style, and the timeline as well as location in which The Worlds Fair had been heldexposition's, etc.

Makes these Crabs from one of only 2 locations. It is my opinion when comparing this artwork with the Japanese(which we frequented very often Pre-World War One), it is very possible that is where they were made so intricately.

I would also believe in comparing the art, sculpting, and design that these Crab's may have been of Wales. I have researched as much as possible and will continue to do so, I have written letters requesting any documented history of that Era in regards to the Crab Inkwells and Worlds Fairs they had been seen at. You can very Clearly see that the Crab I have is not from Saint Louis in 1904, but rather inscribed as'06 on one rear foot of the crab. It is also quite clear that Washington DC did not have any World's Fair in 1906.

It was planned that "The Exposition of the Three America's" would in-fact visit Washington DC, another mystery is why did the Event not take place? Who did the inscribing and engraving on these Crabs? I have included most of what I know about these rare "non-homemade" but very unique Items. You have to pay a different website, just to see what the famous 1904 Worlds Fair St. I welcome any input if you have more information. Anyway feel free to make a reasonable offer.
