POLITICAL 1865 ABRAHAM LINCOLN MOURNING COCKADE - ALBUMEN PHOTO & BLACK RIBBON. Not only is this photo highly desirable as a historical photograph, but the creation of the image constructed into a mourning cockade worn after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln makes this a super rare collectable for many types of collectors; Civil War Era, Political, U. The cockade is constructed from what appears to be a CDV cartouche sleeve dyed black surrounding the original illustrated portrait of the president, then the image was surrounded by a border of black lace material, a felt backing applied containing a stick pin and a black folded silk ribbon which hangs below. CONDITION : Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this image and as part of my description. The oval portion of the cockade measures approximately 3 1/2" X 2 3/4" with the additional ribbon that originally hung below several more inches. The item is in amazing condition and has been well cared for. The only issue being the frailness of the silk ribbon from being stored folded over the past 157 years. I have included several images of the front and backside of this cockade and shown how the ribbon at the bottom has been stored folded for many years. The image itself remains bold and displays beautifully. This incredible historic mourning item would be a top shelf item for your personal collection of photography or political history!
